    Historical Summary
In October 2005 the Board of Trustees asked for the formation of a group of community and CISD staff members charged with the task of:
    • Evaluating our current situation at Coppell High School and project future possibilities
    • Forming subcommittees and address specific alternatives
    • Developing a recommendation to the Board of Trustees

The Grade Alignment Committee met throughout the spring of 2006 in which members researched options and solicited information from other community members. A summary of their work was presented at a Board meeting in May 2006. The Grade Alignment committee’s supported two solutions: A 9th Grade Center and an Academy/Magnet school. In September 2006, the Board reconvened the discussion about overcrowding at CHS. In an October Board meeting, they heard pros/cons about the academic impact of both options. After that report was made, the Board asked for more information about the Academy/Magnet concept and how other districts were implementing this choice for students. Another presentation was made in November.

After discussion, the Board of Trustees asked for an action item regarding moving forward with an Academy/Magnet school to be place on the November 27, 2006 agenda.
