Why should I stick to one Program of Study?
The CTE programs of study were designed to give students an in-depth understanding of their selected program. Students can select multiple CTE electives outside of the program of study, as long as they select one program of study to complete.

Is Career and Technical Education for high school students who are not college bound?
No! Nearly two-thirds of all high school graduates of CTE programs enter some form of postsecondary program. Rigorous academic content tied to technical subject matter ensures that CTE students will be ready for college. CTE bridges high school and community college curriculum to help students smoothly transition from high school to postsecondary education and then on to professional careers.

What is iExplore?
iExplore is a district-wide required course for all 7th grade students. It is designed to help students explore their interests and aptitudes to plan for their future secondary coursework.

Why are industry-based certifications important?
Certifications allow students to obtain workforce-ready skills. Individuals are prepared for employment upon completion and possess the skills that employers want. Employers value professionals who proactively seek opportunities to develop their skills and expertise.

Do CTE courses impact my GPA?
Yes, CTE courses are treated like all other courses when calculating a student’s GPA.

What is the purpose of CTSOs?
Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) are designed to give students a co-curricular experience. They encourage students to take their campus-based learning beyond the walls of the classroom. CTSOs provide leadership opportunities, connections to industry professionals and community service partnerships. Overall, CTSOs enhance the student learning experience in the Coppell ISD CTE classroom.

Can I be in a CTSO if I attend a CTE course on a community college campus?
CTSOs are designed to be co-curricular. This aspect requires students to be enrolled in CTE courses on campus at Coppell ISD.
Career Prep 1

Do we need to find a job on our own?
Students are responsible for finding their own employment. A work-based learning job board tool will be available to students in Fall 2021.

Do we work during the class period, or do we need to work after/outside of school?
Students can work any time before/after school. Students aren’t required to work during that off period, but they can if they would like.

If we do need to work outside of school, then approximately how many hours do we need to do so?
Students must work a minimum of 15 hours a week.

This course is single-blocked and can serve as your fourth year science course.

What courses should I take sophomore year?
You will enroll in the CTE course Kinesiology I. You are highly encouraged to take the Sports Medicine I course that will serve as a PE credit.
