Students Advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair

Students Advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair and Place in the Top 3 at State



CISD had several students achieve top finishes at the Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair and the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair. CHS juniors Ameya Kulkarni and Praneeth Muvva won 1st place in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics category at the Dallas Regional science fair to automatically advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair to be held in Dallas in May. CHS juniors Anish Kaira, Trishay Naman and Dhroov Pathare placed 2nd at the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair in the Biomedical Engineering Category. CHS junior Rashika Porandla placed 2nd at the Texas fair in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category.

Junior Division Dallas Regional Science and Engineering Fair

  • CMS North 8th graders Charvi Vohra and Hao Wei won 1st place in the Energy/Sustainable Materials and Design category and advanced to state for their project “Sonus-energy: The Noise to Electricity Converter”
  • CMS East 7th grader Vissa Venkat won 2nd place in the Plant Sciences category and advanced to state for the project “How Does the Cultivation Method and Variety of Blackberries Affect Their Nutrition Profile?"
  • CMS North 8th graders Satvik Kolathaya and Eshan Mahimkar won 3rd place in the Chemistry category and advanced to state for their project “Electro-Splitting”

Senior Division Dallas Regional and Texas State Science and Engineering Fairs

  • CHS juniors Ameya Kulkarni and Praneeth Muvva won 1st place and qualified for the International Science and Engineering Fair in the Computational Biology and Bioinformatics category for their project “A Novel Application of Machine Learning Algorithms on Toxin Proteins to Predict Molecular Function”
  • CHS juniors Anish Kaira, Trishay Naman and Dhroov Pathare won 2nd place and advanced to state, where they placed 2nd at the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair in the Biomedical Engineering Category for their project, “A Nonmydriatic Retinal Imaging Tool Utilizing Biomarker Characteristics for Broad Spectrum Disease Eye-Dentification via Limited Dataset Categorical Classification and Multi-Disease Diagnosis Deep Learning”
  • CHS junior Rashika Porandla placed 2nd and advanced to state, where she won 2ndplace in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category with the project “Climate Change Reimagined: A Novel Visualization of the Influence of Earth's Precession Index Variations on the Precipitation and Photosynthetic Activity Experienced by Equatorial Regions.” She also received two special awards for this project at the Dallas Regional Fair in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category — the U.S. Agency for International Development Science Champion Award and the U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize, Award for Excellence in a Water-Related Project.
  • CHS junior Ishita Saran placed 3rd in the Plant Sciences category at the Dallas Regional Fair for the project “Salt as Fertilizers”
