Congratulations 2023 CISD Spelling Bee Champions

Spelling BeeAfter 24 rounds and correctly spelling “adieu,” Sriya Gomatam, a 7th grader from CMS North is the 2023 CISD Spelling Bee Champion. Avishka Dudala, a fifth grader from Richard J. Lee Elementary is the First Runner Up. 

The CISD Spelling Bee was held Jan. 13 at Coppell Middle School West. Gomatam and Dudala had the top two scores on the program and will represent CISD by competing in the Dallas County Spelling Bee in February. 

The CISD elementary and middle school campus Spelling Bee Winners who competed Jan. 13 were:

  • Ayush Verma — Pinkerton Elementary 
  • Thulasirman Jeyaraman — Town Center Elementary 
  • Kaveesh Kirubhaharan — Valley Ranch Elementary 
  • Vidya Radhakrishnan — Wilson Elementary 
  • Adirti Amresh, Anika Bandaru and Shawroj Khan — CMS East 
  • Sriya Gomatam (Champion), Vir Dubey and Nirjha Rahul — CMS North
  • Kapil Khare, Shruti Borra and Ishani Tamma — CMS WEST 


Judges for the event were CMS West Principal Dr. Sarah Balarin, Director of ESL and Bilingual Programs Dr. Patricia Dawson and Director of Mathematics Brian Timm. CISD Executive Director for Instructional Leadership Mary Kemper served as the Pronouncer, CISD Administrative Assistant Casey Magnacca served as the Spelling Bee District Representative, CISD HR and Professional Learning Specialist Emily Cowart served as the Official Spelling Bee Videographer and Administrative Assistant Jill Hickman organized the event, under the leadership of Director of Literacy Dr. Anita de la Isla.
