Care & Maintenance

  • iPad/MacBook Care

Carefully transport your device to school every day. Avoid placing weight on the device.  Never throw or slide an iPad/MacBook.  Never expose an iPad/laptop to long-term temperature extremes or direct sunlight. An automobile is not a good place to store any electronic device.

    iPad/MacBook Case

Learners are responsible for providing a case/cover for their device. The purpose of the case is to protect the iPad/MacBook, especially while the device is being transported.  When not in use, closing the iPad case or laptop screen will save battery life and protect the screen. All devices must remain in a protective case at all times. No stickers or any other items should be attached to the iPad/MacBook itself unless placed there by school staff.

    iPad/MacBook Battery

The iPad/MacBook should be charged, using the provided wall charger, and brought to school ready to use each day. Fully charged batteries will typically last 12 – 15 hours of use. Waiting to charge the battery until the charge is low (less than 20% life or red indicator light) will extend the battery life. It is the student’s responsibility to charge his/her device at home and ensure it is ready for use in school each day. Failure to do so may result in the student’s inability to participate in classroom learning activities.

    iPad/MacBook  Screen

Never throw a book bag that contains an iPad or MacBook . Never place an iPad/MacBook in a book bag that contains food, liquids, heavy, or sharp objects. While the iPad and Laptop screen is scratch resistant, it is not scratch proof. Only use stylus (special pens made for touch screen devices) on the iPad. Avoid using any sharp object(s) on the iPad or Laptop. The iPad and Laptop screen is glass and is vulnerable to cracking. Never place heavy objects on top of these devices and never drop your device. Careful placement in your backpack is important.

iPads and MacBook do not respond well to liquids. Avoid applying liquids to the iPad/MacBook. These devices can be cleaned with a soft, slightly water-dampened, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in the openings. Do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean the iPad. Use of unapproved cleaners may remove the protective film covering the face of the iPad.

Damage/Repairs

  • Will I have to pay for repairs or replacement of the device if it gets damaged? The Coppell ISD Device Protection Plan will be used to repair accidental damage, stolen devices (with a police report), and product failure (not a result of damage). It will not cover negligence, willful damage or a lost device and learners are responsible for repair costs associated with any damage to an assigned iPad/MacBook.

Can I take the device to be repaired by a vendor? To ensure quality service and repair, CISD will handle all repairs.

What if my iPad/laptop gets stolen? If a device or accessory is stolen on or off school property, it must be reported immediately to a school administrator and reported via a Help Desk Ticket. Action will be taken by the district to track the missing/stolen device, and appropriate consequences outlined in the Student Code of Conduct will be administered.
    • If a device is stolen, a police report MUST be filed by the student and/or parent or guardian. A copy of the police report must be provided to the campus administrator prior to assignment of a new device.
    What are the replacement costs?
The following are estimated costs that are associated to an iPad.
    • iPad Replacement for CHS9 and CHS: $629

Insurance

  • Are there insurance options? Coppell ISD recommends parents consider purchasing a warranty through a vendor of your choice. Coppell ISD has secured special insurance rates through Worth Ave Group (see below). We highly recommend parents research vendors and find a plan that works best for you.

What does insurance typically cover? The insurance usually covers the current replacement/repair cost of an iPad/MacBook should it be stolen or damaged. Note, most insurance does not cover negligence (leaving a device in a hot car, device stolen from an unlocked car, etc.)
